We said, "Messenger of Allah, we already know how to send peace upon you, but how do we send blessings upon you?"He replied, "Say, 'O Allah, send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You sent blessings upon Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious. And bestow favor upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as You bestowed favor upon Ibrahim. Indeed, You are Praiseworthy, Glorious.'"Mahmud said that Abu Usama reported, "Zaidah added to me, from Amash, from Hakam, from Abdul-Rahman bin Ubayy Layla, who said, 'And we say, And upon us along with them.'"

Agreed upon [by Bukhari and Muslim]. Bukhari narrated it in the tafsir chapter, the section on His saying, "Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet," no. 4797, and Muslim, no. 406, from the hadith of Masaar, with this wording.On this subject there are also narrations from Ali [Ibn Adi in al-Kamil, 2/830], Abu Humayd [Bukhari, nos. 3369, 6360, and Muslim, no. 407], Abu Masud [Muslim, no. 405], Talha bin Ubaydullah [Nasai, no. 1291], Abu Saeed [Bukhari, nos. 4798, 6358], Burayda [Ahmad, 5/353], Zayd bin Kharija [Nasai, no. 1293], and Abu Hurairah [Abu Dawud, no. 982].
