Abdullah bin Umar reported,
We used to call Zayd bin Haritha by no other name than Zayd ibn Muhammad, until the verse was revealed, "Call them by their fathers' names, that is more just in the sight of Allah" [Ahzab 33:5].He said, this is a sound hadith.

ما كنا ندعو زيد بن حارثة إلا زيد ابن محمد حتى نزلت {ادعوهم لآبائهم هو أقسط عند الله} قال هذا حديث صحيح

Agreed upon [by Bukhari and Muslim]. Muslim narrated it in the Book of the Virtues of the Companions, chapter on the virtues of Zayd bin Haritha and his son Usama , hadith no. 2425, from Qutayba, and Bukhari, hadith no. 4782, from the hadith of Musa bin Uqba by this same route, and it has already appeared at no. 3209.
