The Prophet ﷺ was asked about the even and the odd, and he said, "It refers to prayer. Some of it is even and some of it is odd."
حدثنا أبو حفص عمرو بن علي حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي وأبو داود قالا حدثنا همام عن قتادة عن عمران بن عصام عن رجل من أهل البصرة
أن النبي ﷺ سئل عن الشفع والوتر فقال هي الصلاة بعضها شفع وبعضها وتر
[Its chain of transmission is daif]. Ahmad narrated it (4/437) from Abu Dawud Tayalisi through this route, and it has another version in Hakim (2/522).* Qatada narrated with "an" (without specifying direct transmission).
