Anas bin Malik reported,

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was wounded in his face, his front tooth was broken, and he was struck by a missile on his shoulder, so the blood began to flow down his face. He was wiping it away while saying, "How can a people succeed who did this to their prophet while he was calling them to Allah?"Then Allah the Exalted revealed, "Not for you, [O Muhammad, but for Allah], is the decision whether He should [cut them down] or forgive them or punish them, for indeed, they are wrongdoers" [Aal Imran 3:128].I heard Abd bin Humayd say, "Yazid bin Harun made an error in this."
