The Jews used to sneeze deliberately in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ, hoping he would say to them, "May Allah have mercy on you." Instead, he would say, "May Allah guide you and set your affairs right."
حدثنا محمد بن بشار حدثنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي حدثنا سفيان عن حكيم بن ديلم عن أبي بردة
كان اليهود يتعاطسون عند النبي ﷺ يرجون أن يقول لهم يرحمكم الله فيقول يهديكم الله ويصلح بالكم
[Its isnad is sahih]. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Manners, Chapter on how a dhimmi is responded to when he sneezes, hadith: 5038, from the hadith of Sufyan Thawri with the same wording, and he made the hearing explicit with Hakim: 4/268, and Nawawi and others graded it sahih.There is also a report on this topic from Ali [coming up: 2741, and Ibn Majah, hadith: 3715], Abu Ayub [coming up: 2741], Salim bin Ubayd [coming up: 2740], Abdullah bin Jafar [Ahmad: 1/204], and Abu Hurairah [Bukhari, hadith: 6224].
