The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Before the Hour there will be tribulations like patches of a dark night. A man will wake up a believer and go to bed a disbeliever, and go to bed a believer and wake up a disbeliever. People will sell their religion for a small price of worldly goods."
[Its isnad is hasan]. Ibn Abu Shayba (11/39) also narrated it from Layth bin Saad through the same route. Saad bin Sinan's hadith is hasan, as mentioned earlier at 646. The hadith has supporting narrations. On this subject there are also narrations from Abu Hurairah [mentioned earlier at 2195], Jundab [Tabarani in Al-Kabir, 22/177, no. 1724], Numan bin Bashir [Ahmad, 4/272, 277], and Abu Musa [Abu Dawud, no. 4262].
