A man came to the Prophet ﷺ wearing an iron ring. The Prophet ﷺ said, "Why do I see you wearing the ornament of the people of the Fire?"Then he came again wearing a ring made of Safar, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Why do I sense from you the smell of idols?"Then he came once more wearing a gold ring, and the Prophet ﷺ said, "Why do I see you wearing the ornament of the people of Paradise?"The man asked, "What should I make it from?"He replied, "From silver, but do not let it weigh a full mithqal."
حدثنا محمد بن حميد حدثنا زيد بن حباب وأبو تميلة يحيى بن واضح عن عبد الله بن مسلم
جاء رجل إلى النبي ﷺ وعليه خاتم من حديد فقال ما لي أرى عليك حلية أهل النار ثم جاءه وعليه خاتم من صفر فقال ما لي أجد منك ريح الأصنام ثم أتاه وعليه خاتم من ذهب فقال ما لي أرى عليك حلية أهل الجنة قال من أي شيء أتخذه قال من ورق ولا تتمه مثقالا
[Hasan] It was also narrated by Abu Dawud in the Book of the Ring, chapter on what has been said about the iron ring, no. 4223, and Nasai, no. 5198, from the hadith of Zayd bin Hubab through the same route. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 1467, and Ibn Hajar discussed this in Fath al-Bari. Part of the hadith has supporting evidence.Abdullah bin Muslim, his hadith is hasan according to the more correct view.
