A sheep died, so the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to its owners, "Why did you not take its skin, tan it, and make use of it?"

[Its chain of transmission is sahih] Muslim also narrated it in the Book of Menstruation, Chapter on the purification of the skins of dead animals through tanning, hadith no. 365, from Ata bin Abu Rabah with the same wording. There are also narrations on this subject from Salama bin Muhabbiq [Abu Dawud, hadith no. 4125], Maymuna [Muslim, hadith no. 363], Ayesha [Abu Dawud, hadith no. 4124], and Sawda [Bukhari, hadith no. 6686].
