The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was asked about clarified butter, cheese, and fur. He said, "What is lawful is what Allah has made lawful in His Book, and what is unlawful is what Allah has forbidden in His Book. Whatever He has remained silent about is among that which He has pardoned."
[Hasan]. Ibn Majah also reported it in the Book of Foods, chapter on eating cheese and clarified butter, hadith no. 3367, from Ismail bin Musa, with the same wording, but its chain is daif. The hadith has a corroborating narration in Hakim, 2/375, who graded it sahih, and Dhahabi agreed with him. Haythami graded it hasan, and Bazzar said, "Its chain is sound." There is also a narration on this topic from Mughira [Abu Dawud, hadith no. 659].
