I asked Umm Muiminin, "Did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbid eating the meat of sacrificial animals?"She replied, "No, but few people used to offer sacrifices, so he wanted those who did to feed those who did not. We ourselves used to set aside a leg of meat and eat from it ten days later."

قلت لأم المؤمنين أكان رسول الله ﷺ ينهى عن لحوم الأضاحي قالت لا ولكن قل من كان يضحي من الناس فأحب أن يطعم من لم يكن يضحي ولقد كنا نرفع الكراع فنأكله بعد عشرة أيام

Bukhari also narrated it in the Book of Foods, Chapter on the food, meat, and other provisions that the early Muslims used to store in their homes and while traveling, no. 5423, and Muslim, no. 2970:23, from the hadith of Aabis bin Rabia with a similar meaning.
