The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave him sheep to distribute among his companions as sacrificial animals. A young goat remained, so he mentioned this to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, who said, "Sacrifice it yourself."
حدثنا قتيبة حدثنا الليث عن يزيد بن أبي حبيب عن أبي الخير
أن رسول الله ﷺ أعطاه غنما يقسمها على أصحابه ضحايا فبقي عتود أو جدي فذكرت ذلك لرسول الله ﷺ فقال ضح به أنت
Agreed upon. Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Partnership, Chapter on Dividing Sheep and Fairness Therein, no. 2500, and Muslim, no. 1965, from Qutayba with the same wording. Muslim also narrated it, no. 16/1965, from the hadith of Yazid bin Harun and Abu Dawud Tayalisi, and Bukhari, no. 5547, from the hadith of Hisham Dastawai with the same wording. It is also in the Musnad, no. 1002.
