The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Jibreel led me in prayer," and he mentioned something similar in meaning to the hadith of Ibn Abbas, except that he did not mention in it the timing of the Asr prayer of the previous day.

[Its chain of transmission is hasan]. Nasai reported it, 12/263, hadith 527, Chapters on Prayer Times, Chapter on the Earliest Time for Isha, from the hadith of Ibn Mubarak with the same chain. Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, hadith 278, as did Hakim, 10/195-196, and Dhahabi. The hadith has many corroborating narrations found in Tabarani's Awsat, 7/403-404, hadith 6783, and Ibn Khuzayma, hadith 353, and others.
