The Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade that any living creature be made into a target.

نهى رسول الله ﷺ أن يتخذ شيء فيه الروح غرضا
Sourcing, sahih.Ibn Majah reported it in the Book of Sacrifices, chapter on the prohibition of tying up animals and of mutilation, number 3187, from the hadith of Sufyan Thawri with the same wording. It has a corroborating narration in Muslim, number 1957, and elsewhere, and by this the hadith is sahih.
