[Hasan] Abu Dawud transmitted it in Tahara, chapter on tayammum, no. 327, from the hadith of Yazid bin Zuray with this wording, and Ibn Jarud graded it sahih, no. 126, as did Ibn Khuzayma, no. 267, and Ibn Hibban (al-Ihsan) 1300, and Darimi. Ibn Hibban added that Qatada used to issue rulings based on it. The hadith has corroborating narrations in Bukhari (341) and Muslim (368) and others.On this subject there is also a narration from Ayesha [Bazzar 1/159, no. 313, and others] and from Ibn Abbas [forthcoming, 145]. The hadith of Ammar mentioning up to the armpits was transmitted by Abu Dawud, no. 318.
