The Prophet ﷺ detained a man on suspicion, then released him.
حدثنا علي بن سعيد الكندي حدثنا ابن المبارك عن معمر
أن النبي ﷺ حبس رجلا في تهمة ثم خلى عنه
[Its chain of transmission is hasan]. Nasai narrated it: 7/67, no. 4880 (Cutting off the thief, chapter on testing the thief through beating and imprisonment) from Ali bin Saeed Kindi through the same route. Abu Dawud also narrated it, no. 3630, from the hadith of Mamar through the same route.There is also a narration on this topic from Abu Hurairah [Hakim: 4/102].
