The Prophet ﷺ said, "Whoever grants a lifetime gift to a man and his descendants, it belongs to the one to whom it is given and does not revert to the one who gave it, because he made a gift in which inheritance rights have taken effect."
حدثنا الأنصاري حدثنا معن حدثنا مالك عن ابن شهاب عن أبي سلمة
أن النبي ﷺ قال أيما رجل أعمر عمرى له ولعقبه فإنها للذي يعطاها لا ترجع إلى الذي أعطاها لأنه أعطى عطاء وقعت فيه المواريث
Muslim also narrated it in the Book of Gifts, chapter on umra (life-tenancy gifts), Hadith: 1625, from the hadith of Malik through the same chain, and it is found in Muwatta, 2/756. Bukhari also narrated it, Hadith: 2625, from the hadith of Abu Salama bin Abdul-Rahman through the same chain, in abridged form.
