The Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me two young slaves who were brothers, and I sold one of them.The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Ali, what happened to your slave?"I told him what I had done.He said, "Take him back, take him back."
حدثنا الحسن بن قزعة أخبرنا عبد الرحمن بن مهدي عن حماد بن سلمة عن الحجاج عن الحكم عن ميمون بن أبي شبيب
وهب لي رسول الله ﷺ غلامين أخوين فبعت أحدهما فقال لي رسول الله ﷺ يا علي ما فعل غلامك فأخبرته فقال رده رده
Its isnad is daif. Ibn Majah also narrated it in "Trade Transactions," the chapter on the prohibition of separating captives, no. 2249, from the hadith of Hammad bin Salama with the same wording, and Hakim graded it sahih (2/54). Maymun did not meet Ali, as Abu Dawud said, no. 2696. The hadith has daif corroborating narrations in Bayhaqi (9/127) and elsewhere, and Hakim graded it sahih.
