When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed away, the Companions disagreed about where to bury him. Abu Bakr said, "I heard something from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that I have never forgotten. He said, 'Allah does not take the soul of a prophet except in the very place where He wishes him to be buried.' So bury him in the spot where his bed lies."
[Sahih] It was also narrated by Ahmad bin Ali bin Saeed Marwazi in Musnad Abu Bakr, no. 43, from the hadith of Kurayb through the same route. The hadith has many corroborating narrations in Ibn Saad and elsewhere. See Tasheel al-Hajah, no. 1628.
