He asked the Prophet ﷺ about the two surahs of refuge. Uqba said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then led us in the Fajr prayer reciting them."
أخبرنا موسى بن حزام الترمذي وهارون بن عبد الله واللفظ له قالا حدثنا أبو أسامة قال أخبرني سفيان عن معاوية بن صالح عن عبد الرحمن بن جبير بن نفير عن أبيه
أنه سأل النبي ﷺ عن المعوذتين قال عقبة فأمنا بهما رسول الله ﷺ في صلاة الفجر
[Sahih] Abu Yaala narrated it, 3/276, no. 1734, from the hadith of Abu Usama transmitting it, and it is also in Kubra, no. 1024. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih, no. 536, as did Ibn Hibban (Mawarid), no. 471, and Hakim, according to the standard of the two Shaykhs, 1/240, and Dhahabi agreed with him.Sufyan here is Thawri, and he narrated using "an" (indicating a possible break in the chain). His hadith has many corroborating narrations with Nasai, no. 5431, 5442, and others.
