A man came to Ibn Umar and said, "Our family soaks dates in water for us in the evening to make a drink, and when morning comes we drink it."Ibn Umar replied, "I forbid you from intoxicants, whether little or much, and I call Allah to witness against you. I forbid you from intoxicants, whether little or much, and I call Allah to witness against you. The people of Khaybar soak such-and-such to make a drink and call it by such-and-such a name, but it is wine. The people of Fadak soak such-and-such to make a drink and call it by such-and-such a name, but it is wine."He went on to enumerate four kinds of drinks, one of which was made from honey.
أخبرنا سويد بن نصر قال حدثنا عبد الله عن ابن عون
جاء رجل إلى ابن عمر فقال إن أهلنا ينبذون لنا شرابا عشيا فإذا أصبحنا شربنا قال أنهاك عن المسكر قليله وكثيره وأشهد الله عليك أنهاك عن المسكر قليله وكثيره وأشهد الله عليك إن أهل خيبر ينتبذون شرابا من كذا وكذا ويسمونه كذا وكذا وهي الخمر وإن أهل فدك ينتبذون شرابا من كذا وكذا يسمونه كذا وكذا وهي الخمر حتى عد أشربة أربعة أحدها العسل
