Kaab demanded from Ibn Abu Hadrad the repayment of a debt he owed him. Their voices grew loud until the Messenger of Allah ﷺ heard them from inside his house. He came out to them, drew back the curtain of his chamber, and called out, "Kaab."Kaab replied, "At your service, Messenger of Allah."He said, "Reduce this much from your debt," gesturing to indicate half.Kaab said, "I have done so."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ then said to Ibn Abu Hadrad, "Get up and pay him."
أخبرنا أبو داود قال حدثنا عثمان بن عمر قال أنبأنا يونس عن الزهري
أنه تقاضى ابن أبي حدرد دينا كان عليه فارتفعت أصواتهما حتى سمعهما رسول الله ﷺ وهو في بيته فخرج إليهما فكشف ستر حجرته فنادى يا كعب قال لبيك يا رسول الله ﷺ قال ضع من دينك هذا وأومأ إلى الشطر قال قد فعلت قال قم فاقضه
Bukhari narrated it in the Book of Prayer, Chapter on Pressing for Payment and Staying in the Masjid, no. 457, and elsewhere, and Muslim narrated it in the Book of Sharecropping, Chapter on the Recommendation of Reducing a Debt, no. 21/1558, from the hadith of Uthman bin Umar with the same chain, and it is in Al-Kubra, no. 5965.
