The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said to me, "Ali, ask Allah for guidance and uprightness." He forbade me from placing a ring on this finger and this one, indicating the index finger and the middle finger.
أخبرنا محمد بن منصور قال حدثنا سفيان عن عاصم بن كليب عن أبي بردة قال قال
لي رسول الله ﷺ يا علي سل الله الهدى والسداد ونهاني أن أجعل الخاتم في هذه وهذه وأشار يعني بالسبابة والوسطى
Sahih. Humaydi narrated it, no. 52, from Sufyan bin Uyayna, at length, and in it, "He heard it from," etc. Bukhari (in a suspended form) and Muslim, no. 65/2078, narrated it from Ibn Abu Musa, who said, "I heard Ali," the hadith of Asim bin Kulayb. It is also in Kubra, no. 9536.
