A group of the companions of Muhammad ﷺ were present with him when he said, "Do you know that the Prophet of Allah ﷺ forbade the wearing of gold except in small pieces?"They replied, "By Allah, yes."
أخبرنا محمد بن المثنى قال حدثنا ابن أبي عدي عن سعيد عن قتادة عن أبي شيخ أنه
وعنده جمع من أصحاب محمد ﷺ قال أتعلمون أن نبي الله ﷺ نهى عن لبس الذهب إلا مقطعا قالوا اللهم نعم
[Sahih] Tabarani reported it in Al-Kabir, 19/353, no. 826, from the hadith of Saeed bin Abu Aruba, through this route, and Hammad bin Salama followed him in narrating it as found in Abu Dawud, no. 1794, and it is also in Al-Kubra, no. 9599, 9453. The hadith has corroborating narrations.
