The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to pray the afternoon prayer, and then someone would set off to Quba. One of the two narrators said, "He would reach them while they were still praying," and the other said, "And the sun was still high."
أخبرنا سويد بن نصر قال أنبأنا عبد الله عن مالك قال حدثني الزهري وإسحق بن عبد الله
أن رسول الله ﷺ كان يصلي العصر ثم يذهب الذاهب إلى قباء فقال أحدهما فيأتيهم وهم يصلون وقال الآخر والشمس مرتفعة
Bukhari, Times of Prayer, chapter on the time of Asr, no. 551, 548, and Muslim, Mosques, chapter on the recommendation of praying Asr early, no. 621, narrated it from the hadith of Malik through the same chain, and it is in Muwatta (Yahya) 9/1 in abbreviated form, and Kubra, no. 1495.
