The Prophet ﷺ did not cut off the hand of a thief except for the value of a shield, and the value of a shield in those days was a Dinar.
و أخبرنا محمود بن غيلان قال حدثنا معاوية قال حدثنا سفيان عن منصور عن مجاهد عن عطاء
لم يقطع النبي ﷺ السارق إلا في ثمن المجن وثمن المجن يومئذ دينار
Its chain is daif due to its being a mursal report. It is in Kubra, hadith no. 7429.Ayman Habashi was one of the people of Makkah (Bayhaqi: 8/257, and see Tahawi: 3/63). Ibn Hibban said in al-Thiqat: 4/47, "Ayman bin Ubayd Habashi, and whoever claims that he had companionship with the Prophet is mistaken. His hadith concerning amputation is mursal."
