The Prophet ﷺ said, "I am to you like a father teaching you. When one of you goes to relieve himself, he should not face the qiblah nor turn his back to it, and he should not clean himself with his right hand."He used to instruct the use of three stones, and he forbade using dung or bones.
Its isnad is hasan. Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Purification, Chapter on the dislike of facing the qibla when relieving oneself, hadith (8), and Ibn Majah in the Book of Purification, Chapter on cleansing with stones..., hadith (312, 313), the hadith of Ibn Ajlan with this wording. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih (1/43, 44, hadith 80), and Ibn Hibban (Mawarid 128).
