Regarding the verse "Those of you who die leaving wives behind should bequeath to their wives a year's maintenance without their being turned out" [Baqarah 2:240], this was abrogated by the verse of inheritance, which assigned her either a quarter or an eighth, and the term of one year was abrogated by setting her waiting period at four months and ten days.

[Its chain is hasan] Abu Dawud narrated it in Talaq, chapter on the abrogation of the provision for the widow by what was ordained for her of inheritance, no. 2698, from the hadith of Ali bin Husayn, through him, and it is also found in al-Kubra, no. 5737.
