The Prophet ﷺ said, "A woman whose husband has died must not wear garments dyed with safflower or red ochre, nor apply henna, nor wear kohl."
أخبرنا محمد بن إسمعيل بن إبراهيم قال حدثنا يحيى بن أبي بكير قال حدثنا إبراهيم بن طهمان قال حدثني بديل عن الحسن بن مسلم عن صفية بنت شيبة
عن النبي ﷺ قال المتوفى عنها زوجها لا تلبس المعصفر من الثياب ولا الممشقة ولا تختضب ولا تكتحل
[Its chain of transmission is hasan] Abu Dawud narrated it in the Book of Divorce, Chapter on What a Woman in Her Waiting Period Should Avoid, no. 2304, from the hadith of Yahya bin Abu Bukayr with this chain, and it is also in Al-Kubra, no. 5729, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 1328. Some narrated it as a stopped report, but this does not cause harm.
