Kaab bin Malik reported,

His account of when he stayed behind from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the expedition of Tabuk. In it he said, "Suddenly a messenger from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to me and said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ...'"Sulayman bin Dawud also informed me, saying, Ibn Wahb reported to us from Yunus, who said, Ibn Shihab said, Abdul-Rahman bin Abdullah bin Kaab bin Malik informed me that Abdullah bin Kaab bin Malik said, I heard Kaab bin Malik recounting his story of when he stayed behind from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ during the expedition of Tabuk. He related the full account, saying, "Suddenly a messenger from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ came and said, 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ commands you to keep apart from your wife.'I asked, 'Shall I divorce her, or what?'He replied, 'No, just keep apart from her and do not approach her.'So I said to my wife, 'Go to your family and stay with them until Allah decides this matter.'"

حديثه حين تخلف عن رسول الله ﷺ في غزوة تبوك وقال فيه إذا رسول رسول الله ﷺ يأتيني فقال إن رسول الله ﷺ ح و أخبرني سليمان بن داود قال أنبأنا ابن وهب عن يونس قال ابن شهاب أخبرني عبد الرحمن بن عبد الله بن كعب بن مالك أن عبد الله بن كعب بن مالك قال سمعت كعب بن مالك يحدث حديثه حين تخلف عن رسول الله ﷺ في غزوة تبوك وساق قصته وقال إذا رسول رسول الله ﷺ يأتي فقال إن رسول الله ﷺ يأمرك أن تعتزل امرأتك فقلت أطلقها أم ماذا قال لا بل اعتزلها فلا تقربها فقلت لامرأتي الحقي بأهلك فكوني عندهم حتى يقضي الله عز وجل في هذا الأمر
