The Prophet ﷺ said, "When one of you wakes from sleep, he should not dip his hand into his washing water until he has washed it three times, for none of you knows where his hand has spent the night."
Muslim also narrated it in Kitab Tahara, chapter on the dislike of the one performing wudu, or anyone else, dipping his hand when it is doubtful whether it is impure, etc., hadith (278), from the hadith of Sufyan bin Uyayna, transmitted in this manner. It is also found in Sunan al-Kubra by Nasai, hadith.
