Anas bin Malik reported,
The Prophet ﷺ entered Mecca during the Compensatory Umrah with Abdullah bin Rawaha walking before him, reciting,"Make way, sons of disbelievers, clear his path. Today we strike you over its revelation, a blow that severs heads from their resting places and distracts the close friend from his dear companion."Umar said to him, "Ibn Rawaha, before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and within the sacred precinct of Allah 
, you recite poetry?"The Prophet ﷺ said, "Leave him be, for these words strike them faster than a hail of arrows."

أن النبي ﷺ دخل مكة في عمرة القضاء وعبد الله بن رواحة يمشي بين يديه وهو يقول خلوا بني الكفار عن سبيله اليوم نضربكم على تنزيله ضربا يزيل الهام عن مقيله ويذهل الخليل عن خليله فقال له عمر يا ابن رواحة بين يدي رسول الله ﷺ وفي حرم الله عز وجل تقول الشعر قال النبي ﷺ خل عنه فلهو أسرع فيهم من نضح النبل
Sourcing, [its chain of transmission is hasan] Tirmidhi narrated it in the Book of Manners, the chapter on what has been said about reciting poetry, no. 2847, from the hadith of Abdul-Razzaq, with this wording, and it is also in Al-Kubra, no. 3856. Tirmidhi said, hasan gharib sahih, and Ibn Hibban graded it sahih, no. 2020, and Baghawi graded it hasan (Sharh al-Sunnah 12/375, no. 3404). It has another route in Ibn Hibban, no. 2021, and elsewhere, and its chain of transmission is hasan.
