Jabir bin Abdullah reported,

We, the companions of the Prophet ﷺ, entered the state of ihram intending Hajj alone, exclusively, with nothing else along with it. We arrived in Makkah on the morning of the fourth day of Dhul-Hijjah. The Prophet ﷺ then commanded us, saying, "Release yourselves from ihram and make it an Umrah."Word reached him that we were saying, "When there are only five days between us and Arafat, he orders us to come out of ihram so that we will set out for Mina with our private parts dripping with semen?"So the Prophet ﷺ stood up and addressed us, saying, "What you have said has reached me. By Allah, I am the most righteous and God-fearing among you. Were it not for the sacrificial animal, I would have come out of ihram myself. Had I known earlier what I know now, I would not have brought the sacrificial animal."Ali then arrived from Yemen, and the Prophet ﷺ asked him, "With what intention did you enter ihram?"Ali replied, "With the same intention as the Prophet ﷺ."The Prophet ﷺ said, "Then offer your sacrifice and remain in ihram as you are."Suraqa bin Malik bin Jusham asked, "Messenger of Allah, is this Umrah of ours for this year only, or for all time?"He replied, "It is for all time."
