I applied perfume to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ with my own hands when he wanted to enter ihram, and again when he came out of ihram, before he had actually exited it.
أخبرنا قتيبة قال حدثنا حماد عن عمرو عن سالم
طيبت رسول الله ﷺ عند إحرامه حين أراد أن يحرم وعند إحلاله قبل أن يحل بيدي

Sourcing, [its isnad is sahih]. Ahmad narrated it, 106/6, and Humaydi, no. 215, from the hadith of Amr bin Dinar through him. It is also in Kubra, no. 3664, where Humaydi added, Salim said, "The sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ is more deserving." Note that Salim here is Ibn Abdullah bin Umar, and Hammad is Ibn Zayd. Ibn Khuzayma graded it sahih via this route, 4/tatabbu 301, no. 2934.
