Whenever the Messenger of Allah ﷺ met one of his companions, he would shake his hand and pray for him.He said, "I saw him one morning and turned away from him. Then I came to him later when the day had grown light."The Prophet ﷺ said, "I saw you and you turned away from me."I replied, "I was in a state of major ritual impurity and feared that you would touch me."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Muslim does not become impure."
أخبرنا إسحق بن إبراهيم قال أنبأنا جرير عن الشيباني عن أبي بردة
كان رسول الله ﷺ إذا لقي الرجل من أصحابه ماسحه ودعا له قال فرأيته يوما بكرة فحدت عنه ثم أتيته حين ارتفع النهار فقال إني رأيتك فحدت عني فقلت إني كنت جنبا فخشيت أن تمسني فقال رسول الله ﷺ إن المسلم لا ينجس

Sahih. It is in Kubra, no. 265. Ishaq is Ibn Rahawayh, Jareer is Ibn Abdul-Hameed, Shaybani is Abu Ishaq Sulayman bin Abu Sulayman, Abu Burda lived during the time of Huzaifa, but I did not find that he heard from him directly, and the following hadith serves as a corroborating witness for it.
