I came to Ali along with two other men, and he said, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would come out from the privy and recite the Quran, and he would eat meat with us. Nothing would keep him from the Quran except major ritual impurity."
أخبرنا علي بن حجر قال أنبأنا إسمعيل بن إبراهيم عن شعبة عن عمرو بن مرة
أتيت عليا أنا ورجلان فقال كان رسول الله ﷺ يخرج من الخلاء فيقرأ القرآن ويأكل معنا اللحم ولم يكن يحجبه عن القرآن شيء ليس الجنابة
Hasan. Abu Dawud narrated it in Tahara, chapter on a person in a state of janaba reciting the Quran, hadith 229, and Ibn Majah in Tahara, chapter on what has been said about reciting the Quran without tahara, hadith 594, from the hadith of Shuba, transmitted through him. It is also found in al-Kubra, hadith 261. Tirmidhi graded it sahih, hadith 146, as did Ibn Khuzayma, Ibn Hibban, Ibn Jarud, Hakim, Dhahabi, Baghawi, and others. Hafiz said in al-Fath, "The truth is that it belongs to the category of hasan and is fit to serve as evidence," 1/324.
