Two men reported that they came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ asking him for charity. He looked them up and down, and Muhammad ran his gaze over them and saw that they were sturdy. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "If you wish, I will give you, but there is no share in it for a wealthy person, nor for one who is strong and able to earn."
أخبرنا عمرو بن علي ومحمد بن المثنى قالا حدثنا يحيى عن هشام بن عروة قال حدثني أبي قال
أن رجلين حدثاه أنهما أتيا رسول الله ﷺ يسألانه من الصدقة فقلب فيهما البصر وقال محمد بصره فرآهما جلدين فقال رسول الله ﷺ إن شئتما ولا حظ فيها لغني ولا لقوي مكتسب
[Its chain is sahih] It was narrated by Abu Dawud in the Book of Zakat, chapter on who may be given from charity and the threshold of sufficiency, hadith 1633, from the hadith of Hisham, transmitted through him. It is also found in Kubra, hadith 2379, and Ibn Abdul-Hadi and others graded it sahih.
