The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The truly needy person is not the one turned away by a meal or two, or a date or two."The Companions asked, "Then who is the truly needy, Messenger of Allah?"He replied, "The one who has no wealth to suffice him, yet people are unaware of his need so they do not give him charity."
[Its chain of transmission is daif]. Abu Dawud reported it in the Book of Zakat, chapter on who may be given from charity and the threshold of self-sufficiency, hadith 1632, from the hadith of Mamar, with this chain, and it is also found in Kubra, hadith 2354. Zuhri used an ambiguous form of transmission (an), and the hadith of Bukhari, hadith 1476, and Muslim, hadith 1039, render it unneeded.
