A man came to the Prophet ﷺ and said, "I was nearly killed after your time over a young goat or sheep from the charity."The Prophet ﷺ replied, "Were it not that it is given to the poor among the Muhajirun, I would not have taken it."

[Its chain of transmission is daif] Bukhari narrated it in Tarikh al-Kabir 26/5, no. 42, from Abu Nuaym in this manner, and it is found in Kubra, no. 2245. Thawri's narration is with an interrupted chain (an'ana), and there is disagreement over whether Abdullah bin Hilal was a companion.
