He used to narrate that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed by a funeral procession and said, "One who finds rest and one from whom others find rest."The people asked, "Who is the one who finds rest, and who is the one from whom others find rest?"He replied, "The believing servant finds rest from the toil and harm of this world, while the wicked servant is one from whom the people, the land, the trees, and the animals find rest."
أخبرنا قتيبة عن مالك عن محمد بن عمرو بن حلحلة عن معبد بن كعب بن مالك
أنه كان يحدث أن رسول الله ﷺ مر عليه بجنازة فقال مستريح ومستراح منه فقالوا ما المستريح وما المستراح منه قال العبد المؤمن يستريح من نصب الدنيا وأذاها والعبد الفاجر يستريح منه العباد والبلاد والشجر والدواب
Muslim narrated it, Funerals, chapter on what has been said about the one who finds rest and the one from whom others find rest, hadith 950, from Qutayba. Bukhari also narrated it, Softening of Hearts, chapter on the agonies of death, hadith 6512, from the narration of Muhammad bin Amr bin Halhala, through him. It is also in al-Kubra, hadith 2057.
