With what did the Messenger of Allah ﷺ open his night prayer?She replied, "You have asked me about something no one has asked me before. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would say takbir ten times, praise Allah ten times, glorify Him ten times, declare His oneness ten times, and seek His forgiveness ten times. Then he would say, 'Allah, forgive me, guide me, provide for me, and grant me well-being. I seek refuge in Allah from the distress of the standing on the Day of Resurrection.'"
أخبرنا عصمة بن الفضل قال حدثنا زيد بن الحباب عن معاوية بن صالح قال حدثنا الأزهر بن سعيد عن عاصم بن حميد قال
بما كان رسول الله ﷺ يستفتح قيام الليل قالت لقد سألتني عن شيء ما سألني عنه أحد قبلك كان رسول الله ﷺ يكبر عشرا ويحمد عشرا ويسبح عشرا ويهلل عشرا ويستغفر عشرا ويقول اللهم اغفر لي واهدني وارزقني وعافني أعوذ بالله من ضيق المقام يوم القيامة
[Its isnad is hasan] Reported by Abu Dawud, Prayer, chapter on what one opens the prayer with of supplication, no. 766, and Ibn Majah, Establishing the Prayers, chapter on what has been said about the supplication when a man rises at night, no. 1356, from the hadith of Zayd, in this manner, and it is also found in Kubra, no. 1317.
