When the sun was eclipsed during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, he performed ablution and ordered that an announcement be made that the prayer was being gathered. He stood and prolonged the standing in his prayer. Ayesha said, "I estimated that he recited Surah al-Baqarah." Then he bowed and prolonged the bowing, then said, "Allah hears whoever praises Him." Then he stood as long as he had stood before, without prostrating. Then he bowed and then prostrated. Then he stood and did as he had done, two cycles of bowing and one prostration. Then he sat, and the sun was uncovered.
أخبرنا أبو بكر بن إسحق قال حدثنا أبو زيد سعيد بن الربيع قال حدثنا علي بن المبارك عن يحيى بن أبي كثير قال حدثني أبو حفصة مولى عائشة أن
أنه لما كسفت الشمس على عهد رسول الله ﷺ توضأ وأمر فنودي أن الصلاة جامعة فقام فأطال القيام في صلاته قالت عائشة فحسبت قرأ سورة البقرة ثم ركع فأطال الركوع ثم قال سمع الله لمن حمده ثم قام مثل ما قام ولم يسجد ثم ركع فسجد ثم قام فصنع مثل ما صنع ركعتين وسجدة ثم جلس وجلي عن الشمس
[Hasan] Ahmad reported it in 6/98, 158 from the hadith of Yahya bin Abu Kathir with this chain. Yahya only narrates from a trustworthy source (in his view), and it is found in Kubra, hadith no. 1866. This hadith has corroborating narrations.
