Saaib bin Yazid reported,
The call to prayer on Friday originally took place when the imam sat on the pulpit, during the time of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, Abu Bakr, and Umar. When Uthman became caliph and the people grew more numerous, he ordered a third call to prayer on Friday, which was made from a place called Zawra, and the practice became established that way.

أخبرني السائب بن يزيد
أن الأذان كان أول حين يجلس الإمام على المنبر يوم الجمعة في عهد رسول الله ﷺ وأبي بكر وعمر فلما كان في خلافة عثمان وكثر الناس أمر عثمان يوم الجمعة بالأذان الثالث فأذن به على الزوراء فثبت الأمر على ذلك
Bukhari narrated it in the chapter on Friday prayer, section on the call to prayer during the sermon, hadith no. 916, from the hadith of Yunus with this same chain, and it is also in Sunan al-Kubra, hadith no. 1700.Tabarani narrated it in Kabir, 7/147, with a sahih chain, from Sulayman Taymi, from Zuhri, with this same chain, and in it, "The call to prayer during the time of the Messenger of Allah, and Abu Bakr, and Umar, 
was at the pulpit," and so on to the end.This shows the weakness of the hadith of Abu Dawud, no. 1088, so let this be noted.
