Regarding the verse "And if you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls" [Nisa 4:3], she said this was revealed concerning a man who had an orphan girl under his guardianship, being both her guardian and her heir. She possessed wealth, and there was no one to dispute on her behalf. He would refuse to marry her off to anyone else because of her wealth, keeping her for himself, yet he would harm her and treat her poorly as a companion. So Allah said, "If you fear that you will not deal justly with the orphan girls, then marry those that please you of other women" [Nisa 4:3], meaning, marry those whom I have made lawful for you, and leave this one whom you are harming.
