We were in Medina when news reached me that the plague had broken out in Kufa. Ata bin Yasar and others said to me, "The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'If you are in a land where it breaks out, do not leave it, and if you hear that it is in a land, do not enter it.'"I asked, "On whose authority?"They replied, "Amir bin Saad narrates it."So I went to him, but they said he was away. Then I met his brother Ibrahim bin Saad and asked him about it. He said, "I witnessed Usama narrating to Saad. He said, 'I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, "This affliction is a punishment, or a torment, or a remnant of torment with which people before you were chastised. So if it is in a land and you are there, do not leave it, and if you hear that it is in a land, do not enter it."'"Habib said, "I asked Ibrahim, 'Did you yourself hear Usama narrating this to Saad while he did not deny it?'"He answered, "Yes."
حدثنا محمد بن المثنى حدثنا ابن أبي عدي عن شعبة
كنا بالمدينة فبلغني أن الطاعون قد وقع بالكوفة فقال لي عطاء بن يسار وغيره إن رسول الله ﷺ قال إذا كنت بأرض فوقع بها فلا تخرج منها وإذا بلغك أنه بأرض فلا تدخلها قال قلت عمن قالوا عن عامر بن سعد يحدث به قال فأتيته فقالوا غائب قال فلقيت أخاه إبراهيم بن سعد فسألته فقال شهدت أسامة يحدث سعدا قال سمعت رسول الله ﷺ يقول إن هذا الوجع رجز أو عذاب أو بقية عذاب عذب به أناس من قبلكم فإذا كان بأرض وأنتم بها فلا تخرجوا منها وإذا بلغكم أنه بأرض فلا تدخلوها قال حبيب فقلت لإبراهيم آنت سمعت أسامة يحدث سعدا وهو لا ينكر قال نعم
