Anas bin Malik reported,

I brought Abdullah bin Abu Talha al-Ansari to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when he was born. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was wearing a cloak and applying tar to one of his camels. He asked, "Do you have any dates with you?"I replied, "Yes."I handed him a few dates, and he placed them in his mouth and chewed them. Then he opened the baby's mouth and put the chewed dates into it. The infant began to taste it with relish. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "The Ansar love dates," and he named him Abdullah.
