Ali said, "I received an aged she-camel as part of my share of the spoils on the day of Badr, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ gave me another aged she-camel as well. One day I made them kneel at the door of a man from the Ansar, intending to load them with aromatic rush grass that I meant to sell. With me was a goldsmith from Banu Qaynuqa, and I hoped to use the proceeds to help pay for the wedding feast of Fatimah. Hamza bin Abdul-Muttalib was inside that house drinking, and with him was a singing girl entertaining him. She sang, 'Hamza, up now, after those fine fat camels!' So Hamza rushed at the two beasts with his sword, cut off their humps, slit open their flanks, and took some of their livers."The narrator said, I asked Ibn Shihab, "And what of the humps?"He replied, "He had cut off their humps and carried them away."Ibn Shihab continued, Ali said, "I looked upon a sight that horrified me. So I went to the Prophet of Allah ﷺ, and Zayd bin Haritha was with him, and I told him what had happened. He set out, with Zayd accompanying him, and I went along with him. He came in upon Hamza and showed his anger toward him. Hamza raised his eyes and said, 'Are you anything more than slaves of my forefathers?' At that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ withdrew, stepping back until he had left them."
