Ali said, "I had an old she-camel that came to me as my share of the spoils on the day of Badr, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ had given me another old she-camel that day from the one-fifth set aside for him. When I intended to consummate my marriage with Fatimah, daughter of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I made an arrangement with a goldsmith from Banu Qaynuqa to set out with me so we could bring back idhkhir grass. I planned to sell it to the goldsmiths and use the proceeds to help with my wedding feast. While I was gathering equipment for my two camels, saddles, large sacks, and ropes, the camels were kneeling beside the chamber of a man from the Ansar. After I had finished collecting what I needed, I returned to find that the humps of my two camels had been cut off, their flanks ripped open, and pieces of their livers taken out. I could not hold back my tears when I saw that sight.I asked, 'Who did this?'They said, 'Hamza bin Abdul-Muttalib did it. He is in this house with a group of the Ansar who are drinking. A singing girl was singing for him and his companions, and in her song she said, "Hamza, the fat she-camels are over there!" So Hamza got up with his sword, cut off their humps, ripped open their flanks, and took out pieces of their livers.'"Ali continued, "I went off until I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and Zayd bin Haritha was with him. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ saw on my face what I had encountered, and he asked, 'What is the matter with you?'I said, 'Messenger of Allah, by Allah, I have never seen anything like what happened today. Hamza attacked my two camels, cut off their humps, and ripped open their flanks. He is right now in a house with a group of drinkers.'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ called for his cloak, put it on, and set off walking. Zayd bin Haritha and I followed him until he reached the door of the house where Hamza was. He asked permission to enter, and they let him in. There they were, drinking. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ began to rebuke Hamza for what he had done, but Hamza's eyes were red. Hamza looked at the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, then raised his gaze to his knees, then raised it further to his navel, then raised it again to his face, and said, 'Are you anything but slaves of my father?'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ realized that he was drunk, so he stepped backwards on his heels and went out, and we went out with him."
