The Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed a man from Azd, known as Ibn Atbiyyah, to collect the alms of Banu Sulaym. When he returned, the Prophet went over the accounts with him, and the man said, "This is what belongs to you, and this is a gift given to me."The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "Why did you not sit at home in the house of your father and mother until your gift came to you, if you are telling the truth?"Then he addressed us, praising Allah and glorifying Him, and said, "Now then, I appoint a man from among you to a task that Allah has entrusted to me, and then he comes and says, 'This is what belongs to you, and this is a gift presented to me.' Why did he not sit at home in the house of his father and mother until his gift came to him, if he was telling the truth? By Allah, none of you takes anything from it that is not his by right without meeting Allah Almighty on the Day of Resurrection carrying it. I shall surely recognize any one of you who comes before Allah carrying a camel that grunts, or a cow that lows, or a sheep that bleats."Then he raised his hands until the whiteness of his armpits could be seen, and said, "O Allah, have I conveyed the message?"My eyes saw it and my ears heard it.In the reports of Abdah and Ibn Numayr, the wording is, "When he returned, he went over the accounts with him," just as Abu Usama said. In Ibn Numayr's report it reads, "Know well, by Allah, by Him in whose hand is my soul, none of you shall take anything from it." And in Sufyan's report he added, "My eyes saw it and my ears heard it, and ask Zayd bin Thabit, for he was present with me."
و حدثنا أبو كريب حدثنا عبدة وابن نمير وأبو معاوية ح و حدثنا أبو بكر بن أبي شيبة حدثنا عبد الرحيم بن سليمان ح و حدثنا ابن أبي عمر حدثنا سفيان كلهم عن هشام بهذا الإسناد وفي حديث عبدة وابن نمير فلما جاء حاسبه كما قال أبو أسامة وفي حديث ابن نمير تعلمن والله والذي نفسي بيده لا يأخذ أحدكم منها شيئا وزاد في حديث سفيان قال بصر عيني وسمع أذناي وسلوا زيد بن ثابت فإنه كان حاضرا معي
