The Prophet of Allah ﷺ flogged for drinking wine using palm branches and sandals, then Abu Bakr administered forty lashes. When Umar's caliphate came and the people moved closer to the countryside and villages, he asked, "What is your opinion regarding the flogging for wine?"Abdul-Rahman bin Awf replied, "I think you should make it like the lightest of the prescribed punishments."So Umar imposed eighty lashes.
