A man who had drunk wine was brought to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he had him flogged with two palm branches, about forty lashes. The narrator said that Abu Bakr did the same. Then when Umar came to power, he consulted the people, and Abdul-Rahman said, "The lightest of the prescribed penalties is eighty." So Umar ordered that.
